Letting Go

This is me holding on tightly
to your little hand.
You begging me to let you go
to let you explore

This me trying to understand
where the years have gone
and how you've grew up so strong

This is me being strong
kissing your forehead
as you run on past me

This is me laughing
seeing you having so much fun
being the big boy you've become

This is me letting go

Author notes

My son! When i read what the last words had to be he is all i thought about. He is turning four tomorrow and he started school this year. I'm so proud of him but its one of the hardest things i've done to see him go away from me and me not know what is going on while he is there! Hope this was alright for the contest.

Awwww....This brought tears to my eyes only because my youngest son just had his fourth birthday party today and I can so feel your anxiety. I have an older son in 4th grade and I was pregnant with Loghan when he started his first day of kindergarten...So THANK you so much for entering. I can't believe this struck so close to home when it wasn't what I had in mind...Fantastic work. Best of luck in this contest...and don't hold too tightly to that little hand...he'll always come back to it. ~gypsy~

This is a very beautiful touching write...being a mum of 3 I know exactly how this feels. You know you have to do it...yet the ache in doing so makes it near enough unbearable...yet the joy you get in return is just amazing.

Best of luck in the contest

This is very heart-felt, an honest look at the pain of letting go to let grow. There's a lot of love and wisdom here.
