White halls
(She's here somewhere)
Sprawling white halls.
Doors.
(Oh god, which one?)
I realize what it is.
(That fucking dream)
The man opens the door.
Says I have 60 minutes.
(Is that enough?)
Something terrible happened.
She lays there, in robes of white.
Eyes closed, face frozen in anguish.
{Are you ok?}
She doesn't hear.
{I came here to see you}
Anything said,
Any flimsy word that drops from this nervous mouth
{You probably can't hear me.}
On deaf ears.
{Please wake up}
Every bargain
{PLEASE.}
Useless, unheard
{I don't know what I'd do without you}
Every explanation for all wrongs done
{Oh god, I'm so sorry...}
Inadequate.
Pathetic.
{I got you something}
From a case, a necklace appears.
Diamond, white.
{Don't ask how much it cost me.}
I clutch it so tight.
{It's for you.}
My eyes get blurry, my face hot.
{Just for you, _______...}
Gently, I part her still soft hair.
I fit the necklace over her head.
{D-do you like it?}
This is pathetic.
{You look so beautiful.}
I feel a tear peek out.
{You always do.}
Again, I part her hair gently.
{I love you so much, _______.}
My fingers lightly grace her cheek.
Still warm.
{Please let me know you'll be ok...}
Not a flinch.
It's been weeks since I've heard her musical voice.
Seen her warm, beautiful eyes.
{I'm sorry in advance for this.}
I kiss her forehead.
My time is up.
Visiting hour is done.
{I have to go now.}
No answer.
I almost expected one that time.
{I love you.}
Nothing.
This can't be real.
{...I-I always will.}
Can't let this man see me cry.
{G-Goodbye, _______.}
The door closes.
I wake up.
I start crying.
Author notes
This is a dream I had at the dentist yesterday.
I needed to put it somewhere.
