I took your words as you spoke them
as you knelt there on one bended knee.
You were so sincere as you spoke them
“I want you to be the other half of my life.
Make me the most blessed man in this world.
Say yes, you will be my wife.”
I did as you bade me to answer
but I felt I was the lucky, most blessed one.
I had waited for this day for so long
Now that I feel I am the one that has won.
That was a few years ago now
A lot has changed in that time
But not the way I feel about you
In my heart you’ll always be mine.
I sit with my wine and I ponder
How things could have turned out this way.
You say you love me as always
But you have given in and you strayed.
Can I trust you now to be true?
Will your words be as strong every day?
I will see for I love you so strongly
I hold on to promises of yesterday.

This is a great write and a wonderful take on the prompt. It's such a wonderful feeling to find someone who makes you feel this way. When love is new, it's as if everything just falls right into place. After a while things start to change and the love that you once felt seems to just disappear. It's a terrible position for anyone to find him/herself in. It's something that we all hope will never happen but, for some it does. Great thoughts here!
