The Obituary Column

My dad always jokingly said,
with his morning paper spread,
"let me check the obituary column",
in a voice so deep and solemn.
"I want to be sure I'm still alive!"
And, at the tender age of five
I always thought it quite queer,
when he was sitting so very near.
So, I'd reach out and with a tiny pinch,
was always tickled to see him flinch!
"Yep, you're alive, I'd say!"
That was how he'd start his day

    You know

For years I have done the very same thing. But there was a time or two that I set my eyes on an old friend. Now, out of fear and despair, a dare not go there. lol interesting piece of poetry poet.
