It’s written in another language
so I really don’t know what it says.
Three blocks from my house
a billboard on the south side of
the corner building there.
Until last week it was a Coke ad
a half naked girl on a beach,
so if you missed the light.
She’d be there larger then life
holding a 16oz bottle
against that beautiful face
inches from those full red lips
‘sublimely suggesting’?
But that’s Madison Ave for you.
Weaving its magic into your
subconscious memory cells
so you relate to their products
in ways
you don’t even know you are.
Like this ad three blocks from my house.
I’m fairly sure of what it’s 'subliminally' saying
Guess you have to live here
three blocks away to feel it
burning into your brain telling you.
They’re coming.

Don't look now, but they're coming - they're almost here, in fact!
I like the humour here, but I like even more the serious point you make about the effectiveness of advertising, subliminal or otherwise.
Good poem,
Bill

subliminal msgs are a scary thought, just like what you have written here, didnt they used to transmit subliminal msgs through television many year ago, or have i got that wrong? well nothing changes really does it as we are all victim of this kind of advertising and you have porteayed this brilliantly within your write.

This is so startling! You don't know who it is that's coming, as the reader, but you are afraid!

You will forever be in my thoughts now each time I see an ad board. LOL I don't think coke would mind your poem, they would probably PAY for it.
Good work here. Good luck in the contest
Sharon
