Subjugation(silver)

She aimed high to be loved,
yet frustration laughed at her attempts
and defeat slapped her soundly between the eyes.

She danced his emotional whirlwind with smiles,
but her soul spun webs full of broken loss,
when those smiles turned to tears.

And the nights taunted her waiting,
when boozy grins leered at his pleasure
and leisure,
as his words collapsed her lungs
and screamed until her bones ached,
decaying into dust of defeat.

And now it's the memories,
beating a path to the past,
with those haunting spectres
where a dulled heart barely beats.

  • Wow, that last stanza made me shutter. It reminds me of my flashbacks and their effect on me. This piece is brilliant, thank you for entering it in my contest.

I can relate to this, but you've said it so much better than I ever could. All best wishes for the contest.

    making me cry the poor soul;
I can relate to this but even if I
couldn't the poem is so strong
it'd reach out and slap me silly!
