Turning from the hall I am comforted
by neatly-folded paper beneath a rose.
I missed out terribly all day, having
considered your indifference-
which is now a smirk of candlelight
which outshines my insecurity
and reddens my cheeks.
Taming the real and unreal
has a slippery instinct-
and as loud as my sand-buried attention yelled,
I sought the romance of stars in your eyes,
only to find love had already trained your pen.
Speechless, as you recreate my confidence
with sensual words while I rustle
flowers behind my back.
by neatly-folded paper beneath a rose.
I missed out terribly all day, having
considered your indifference-
which is now a smirk of candlelight
which outshines my insecurity
and reddens my cheeks.
Taming the real and unreal
has a slippery instinct-
and as loud as my sand-buried attention yelled,
I sought the romance of stars in your eyes,
only to find love had already trained your pen.
Speechless, as you recreate my confidence
with sensual words while I rustle
flowers behind my back.

Beautiful in it's romantic imagery. The right words can so soothe the stumbles in our lives. You used the word bank very well and created a tender read.

Steve...this is a really cleverly sculpted little piece of art...you blend your words with such skill...everything drips from the tongue...and the last verse provides perfect closure...this was truly a delight to the word junkies senses...thanks

Lovely addition to my contest! Bravo!! A folded note, flowers bedind your back. But it is her words with the pen that make on speechless. Impressive write for sure. Thank you for entering.

Impromptu love
How lovely, if I interpret right, to find an unexpected love note! That will always brighten a dull day (and if I'm wrong, I don't want to know). This is such a romantic expression. Impromptu love, I'll call it, and the "neatly-folded paper beneath a rose" is as sweet as the flowers behind your back. I like the way you make the reader "swoon" with your words.

This is really beautiful, and I love the contrast here between insecurity, doubt, and the reality of love that goes beyond romance... deft, light, and yet powerful. What is so wonderful is that you did this with a word bank! Amazing work.

A very beautiful piece you've penned, Steve. I love all the stanzas, so I can't pick a favorite, but "Taming the real and unreal has a slippery instinct-" I understand all to well. Thank you for allowing this glimpse of your heart. As always I wish you the best of luck in the contest.
