The Saga of the Sockeye Salmon

The sockeye salmon swim from Idaho
Once spawned they splash upstream to ocean seek
Then resolute return where rivers flow
To spawn another round within the creek

Tis nature you exclaim, excluding thought
Untroubled by a need to understand,
Are we unlike the salmon which are caught
Forever fated roles all plotted-planned?

A common goal each struggle to acheive
Against the current e'en if we need
A drive to see the world before we leave
Then back to sparkling streams where we plant seed

I'm humbled by these fish within the stream
We struggle, both, and share a common dream

Wow, very insightful. Love the imagery. I often feel that my life is "plotted-planned". But I do try to stop and smell the roses every once in a while. What a great read. Thank you.

your talent is clear for all to see in this piece, i'm not familiar with the poem or poet that you parody here, but i'll soon remedy that with your thoughtfull link. well written comparisons with nature and the human condition are i find difficult to achieve , i think you manage this here!!

Perhaps a comma after understand ?

Not only an excellent poem in its own right but complementing John Clare's Instinct of Hope which seems to have become if not a sin free motto at least a leitmotif for the future

Untroubled by a need to understand = acceptance, but not necessarily blind acceptance

      ty Jonathan...
      some say hope is perpetual
      and grows e'en without seed
      won't falter feast or famine
and can face off any weed
I think more so hope grows where
      effort made has clearly shown
      that faith was planted justly
and then Hope the harvest ...grown

(And surely man is no inferior (salmon)
To die unworthy of a second spring?)

I love how "The Saga of the Sockeye Salmon by Sinfull" rolls off the tongue, but more importantly, this is an excellent write. The life of those little guys isn't very exciting is it?

My favorite part is write at the beginning:
"The sockeye salmon swim from Idaho
Once spawned they splash upstream to ocean seek
Then resolute return where rivers flow
To spawn another round within the creek"

That really captured my attention and guided me through the rest of the poem.

    Thanks for sharing!

When one watches the wild life programs and see various fish leaping up great waterfalls to reach their spawning grounds and bears poised waiting to snatch them, it's amazing any survive at all. I sometimes wonder how much effort I would be prepared to make to achieve my goals... from where I am right now not much it seems ...

I love the way I read "plotted planned" as potted plants....which kinda goes with your thoughts...to live, do we need to be out of our element?
Great thoughts, struggles to reach our goals, even if mired in the same old same old of daily dailies...or day lilies

Ok, I'll quit rambling, but I'm in awe of your words!
will peek at the link in a bit

I don't think I can add anything more to what has already been said. Sin the sonneteer. An excellent example.

    a thought to ponder
Are we unlike the salmon which are caught
    Forever fated roles all plotted-planned?
