Don’t Give up on Me: Spoken from this Generation

"Your sacrifice is enough to convict me"...
I've said that so many times
but now as I sit here typing I wonder
do I really know the cost of why and how He paid the price?

Did you ever stop to ponder
why it is that He still cares?
See, people of this generation
sit and stare as if they're the only ones here.
As if they themselves are the rulers of this world;

but they don't see that their "kingdom" is ruled by "He".
He who sits upon the throne, watching them from up above,
seeing us here, down below.
Please Lord, I'm pleading, don't let me go!

(Hook):
Lord don't u give up on me!
I'm callin out to You,
can I be truly free?

Yo, I may have fallen short and
like Langston said "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair".
Dat don't give me no excuse to not do something,
pretendin like that need ain't there.
Actin like in this world, I ain't got no care.

See, I got a story to tell,
souls to save.
A walk to perfect...
I ain't got time fo mess!
But people just don't get it!

(Hook)
Lord don't u give up on me!
I'm callin out to You,
can I be truly free?

Why is it that I'm ridiculed for my belief?
Shoulda known this was comin cuz Jesus himself
gave us this beat before we had the nerve to feel it.
"You shall be persecuted for My sake"
Didn't know I'd be walkin in His shoes one day...

Fo real man, we gotta get it togetha,
children's lives are at stake.
Thank God we got a democracy and
ain't livin in a Communistic age
where other peeps make the rules and by their
game we gotta play if not, den dying publicly is
da price that's gon get paid.
An all you worried bout is if you can get laid?!

(Hook)
Lord don't u give up on me!
I'm callin out to You,
can I be truly free?

Yo, Jehovah said dat "my people perish cuz they ain't got no knowledge"
Well, wut do ya expect from a bunch of baby Christians cumin st8 outta college?
Arrogance in manner, they shootin it up long da wall,
drinkin it up to da point where they'se buzzed,
fallin an trippin out in da hall.
Won't somebody answer His call????

    Smooth.

This piece is hard-hitting and full of substance.
Most people today have not lost touch with reality, but rather have become too dissolved into reality. Popular culture is just accepted because it's POPULAR, not because it's the peak of idealization or the way things are supposed to be.

I see this poem as a shout out to the lord that the younger generation has lost touch with the truth! There's too much at stake to give in to conformity - we've gotta think about our future and what our world is gonna be like when we're fully-matured and the ones ruling it.

Man, you gotta record this shit. Nobody raps this consciously anymore!
    Good luck in the contest.

Thanls, really 'preciate that. I find it very funny that although I'm a poet, I'm not a rapper. I don't normally write like this. I got into Christian hip hop and rap during my sophomore year of high school. My brother and his friends would freesytle during lunch and I'd just sit and listen to them. Little did I know that they would rub off on me. I'll put my first rap on here and let you read that. It's called "Abstract thoughts at 2:46 a.m." (yea, I couldn't sleep so I just starting writing). How'd you get into rap and stuff?
