One night allowance

Masked faces parade around a golden glow of fireflies minding their own business,
as alcoholic beverages allow the university students to relax in a drunken state of giggles
as the costumes become a challenge set a month ago in advance;

Little kids running riot from the sugar rush of being hidden and the fantasy being real
as make up becomes an allowance from it's usual band cupboard,
the thrill of comparing the horrors taking away each and every girly attitude
because the fairies are now gothicly punky and abandon everything sparkly.

A contest of skills of carving into orange skin nightmarish faces and ghoulish grins,
as each door offers something different and new, and we giggle no matter the age
because for one night it's ok to be something different out of reality.

Author notes

my friends got oh so very very very drunk that night. I was the sober one and I remember everything, I now have the perfect bribes

    You are so lucky to have all those bribes lol. The desinated driver can sit back and think everyone looks stupid. You did a great job of imagery and metaphors. Thanks for the opportunity to read your nice poem. Keep penning.

    • oh trust me, it was funny watching them all, although I am glad that when some people get drunk they arn't aware that they are telling the truth.

    This is awesome. I loved it. Especially the "little kids running riot from the sugar rush" because that is so true. Our kids went insane Halloween night with the sugar.
    Thanks for entering the contest & best of luck.
