Two Moms (Song Lyrics)

Got my dad in the mail today.
Sure, he's a robot, but at least he's not gay.
“I've got a right to both a mom and a dad,”
so Uncle Sam sent me one
so I won't be sad.

So what if I plug him in at night?
He's got 10,000 love gigabytes!
And no kids in class will call me a name.
I glad that all families are exactly the same!

Cuz Who wants two moms anyway?
Clearly, they wouldn't know the way,
to raise me up
right or
show me enough love
or talk about
God or
give me enough
self-esteem...
Y'know what I mean?

His face is stuck in a permanent smile,
but you get used to it, after a while.
Cuz who wants a father who cries or gets mad?
He's the best dad that a kid ever had!

My family rocks, and I think I know why,
All that love takes is a girl and a guy-
Then all other problems will just go away,
I don't understand why you'd choose to be gay!

Cuz Who wants two moms anyway?
Clearly, they wouldn't know the way,
to raise me up
right or
show me enough love
do PTA meetings or
coach my little league team,
Y'know what I mean?

I haven't seen Mom and my new Dad ever touch.
But I know he loves her, he loves her just as much as me.
And Mom is so lucky,
She gets that whole big bed to herself
every night when Dad's recharging.

I'm so glad another, other
than my mother
had the smarts to tell her
what was best for me!

Author notes

During the recent gay marriage debates in Maine, the argument was made that "Every child has the legal right to both a father and a mother." I wrote this satirical song from the point of view of a young boy with a single mother.

Please tell me what you think

Well spoken John. You back in Maine away from Boston?
HAH, "Every child has the legal right to both a father and a mother."... so what are they doing with the dead beat dad's who don't give a shit?

    Buddy

The idea was brought up that I should somehow work in a very unhealthy straight couple of parents, but it ended up not fitting with the overall vibe of the song.

I am indeed back in Maine, so I had a front row seat to the disappointment that was Tuesday night.
