A Geranium Cast Down and a Sweet Potato Freshly Excavated

It took me a while to retrieve
the pot shards and the cast down geranium
from the tin roof.
I waited til my upstairs neighbor
asked me. In the past, when the wind blew
I was quicker about returning it
in something new
but this time I waited
til the yogurt bucket was empty
-the ball of roots and potting soil
still intact after a week-
the growth, still vigorous
despite the exposure.

Is a sweet potato
freshly dug up, alive?
You wouldn't think so.
It seems counterintuitive-
the reverse of growing-
yet when cut up and replanted
fresh shoots sprout.

Clever indeed -- and where I live yogurt lacks the "h". Yogurt is a good thing and the closest to culture that many of us ever come.

Very clever. Doesn't 'yoghurt' have a 'h' in it? or is that just an English thing? I hate yoghurt however it's spelt. Plus we pronounce it differently. (Yog as in 'log')
