Forever Spring - A Sonnet

My winter is dead, and gone is the cold.
My heart, once dark, now wakes amid the light.
In the distance, you rise; the day unfolds.
Higher and higher, now my heart takes flight.
Water feeds the buds, they lift, as do I
We feel the rush of blood so intertwined
Between our souls, pulling us to the sky
Up we go, my dear; leave it all behind.
The flushed skin and clement lips do tell us
Spring is upon our love, but to the top
We mustn’t slip to spite our haste and fuss.
This new life is to grow and never stop.

Passing rain showers may seem to sever,
But with our love, it is Spring forever.

Author notes

This is my first attempt at a sonnet. It was especially tough for me, as I tend to write very spontaneously. Forcing myself to write within the confines of a traditional sonnet was not easy. Because of this, I do think it could flow better. There are parts that seem to stumble, probably due to my immaturity with sonnets, so don't expect exact sonnet rhythm (my iambic pentameter is a bit rusty). However, I am happy with it overall. I like the natural feeling it projects (at least to me). I always try to incorporate nature if possible. There's always a metaphor out there. It's what makes Frost my favorite. When he writes of winter cold, you really feel cold. I'd like to get that same sense of place. Any comments are welcome, as this is my first poem here. Thanks.
