faster

Stupid red light,

let me go

I wanna drive
fast
no more abrupt halts in

            acceleration

"...when i'm feeling lonely and i'm sure i've had enough, she.."

on-ramp,

not slowing down for anyone,

don't care about the Chippies,

let them catch me...

"..sends the comfort coming in from above, don't need..."

landscape whirls,
I pass cars standing still

move

we're on a highway

for fuck's sake...

"...no letter at all, we got a thing that's called radar love..."

wind screams and sunshine pours

nothing exists

but me and this car

"  we've got a line in the sky  "

if I get in front..I'm so gone.

    ohwait,

he's changing lanes too;

                       asshole.

Finally,

a break

so help me,

nothing'd better get

in front of me

pulse blurs,

beats blend with music

rear-view mirror is crooked

this song

is a part of me now;

shiver

wind yanks hair backward

forward now,

across my eyes;

blinding

turn it up louder

this is my favorite part;

deafening..

can hear the music

but no words

because all I can make out

is damnit already, go.

Author notes

italicized font is Radar Love lyrics, by Golden Earring.

actually I drive like an old lady after church.
inspired by Angelo, thanks .

...and the song. If it comes on while I'm driving,
my foot automatically presses down.
I love it.

.

if you have a suggestion, that would be wonderful...

    There are songs that make me automatically drive faster too. Usually ones with a pounding beat - like "The Sound of Madness" by Shinedown.

    Wicked awesome write. Had me on the edge of my seat because I was afraid something bad was going to happen. So glad it didn't.

  • note to self, avoid getting in the car with you just in case, lol, this was a great poem i enjoyed reading it, kind of has like this kind of freedom to it, keep it flowing

    I've always loved the song "Radar Love". Unfortunately, with my big ol' feets, "I can't drive 55". Very cool, Jin. I love the Skynrd tune, too - "They Call Me the Breeze". Ahhh, good ol' southern rock-n-roll. It gets me to those places that are not perhaps even shown on the map...but are well-worth goin' to.

    Some songs have been known to cause speeding tickets. My favorite is "They Call Me the Breeze" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
    I love this write. I love the way you describe the whole event and include the song so it's like we're there (though, I don't have long hair whipping across my face...) I could feel the speed, the air, the rush! Great job.
