Grandpa Heard His Cry

Missing image
Parents have  a sense about them
when their children are hurt,
And Andy's Grandpa was always there
even at his birth.

He whispered a prayer as he heard his cry,
Lord stay with him day and night.
Let not this world ever take him down,
help my grandson stay on solid ground.

At age four as he was playing one day
and he cut his hand pretty bad they say,
He cried out in pain and ran to his mom
and at the same time the phone rang , and Grandpa asked what's wrong .

How did you know Grandpa and this is what he said,
son the day you were born I heard that cry.
And knew from that day I would never be denied.
The sound of your cry there is only one and he sighed.

Years passed and the young man was called to war,
and his grnadpa called and said son dont wonder too far.
Stay with your men and take care for you see,
within your soul I will always be with the.

Letters came addressed to him every month,
and he would get out into the backyard and sit out there on an old stump.
Grandma knew what he was doing and she would whisper a prayer,
and watch his reaction this is the way the letter was shared.

One month he didn't get any mail from afar,
and he went out on that old tree stump and whispered son don't wonder too far.
I feel your pain and would help you if I could,
but son stick with the others always as you should.

As he rose from that stump he grabbed at his chest,
and stumbled to the ground and yelled out Bess!
She came running out to his side,
and he whispered our Grandson is in great peril this night.

She didn't ask him why for he had always been blessed,
and could feel pain from all the rest.
He is caught up in a trench alone and afraid,
Bess we must tell someone and help him today .

They made it into the house and called those in command,
they passed the message on far across the land .
As it reached his platoon and the sargent took the note,
he hung his head and replied we know.

Its been days now and we cant get to him yet ,
their are mortor fire and land minds and we so need help.
As his grandpa sit in silence he began to pray that day,
and he asked his Grandson to help him find the way .

A chill fell upon him and the young man heard a voice,
its up to you son you have to run you have no choice .
And it was as though two hands lifted him that day,
and guided him through the land minds in a grand display.

Out of te smoke and fire the young man came through,
and the cheering came loud and clear from the platoon.
They saw him drift across the land his feet never touched the ground,
leaveing everyone in awe for he moved without a sound.

After a bit Bessy his Grandmother saw his Grandpa smile,
and slapped at his knee and replied I knew it all the while.
He just needed a hand one who gave him life,
to bring him out of that hell and he had tears streaming from his eyes.

The day the boy returned home bandaged yet safe,
and his Grandpa met him on that faithful day.
Grandpa you were there his young voice replied,
and in their embrace he whispered son
it wasnt I .
But God heard my prayers and he found you that day,
and son he brought you out of harms way.

    What a strong message

It made me cry. My cousin is a solider in Iraq. It kills me every second that he is there. Your poem sends a strong message that we should all listen to, our soldiers need us more than anything, and it's amazing how just a "hey how are you" from a complete stranger can make a soldier's day because they know that we care. I can completely feel all of your emotion through this poem, now if you'll excuse I have to go wipe the tears that streaming down my face and making it nearly impossible to see well enough to type.

soldier is a soilder no region

Nicely spoken the tales of those survivors for whom we are secured. No description would be enough to their sacrifice and dedication.Your poem reminds a forgotten war sight.

    SO SWEET AND EMOTIONAL!!!!

I am sitting here in tears as I have over the years either read or heard first hand of many stories like this boys here. Time and time again just when a soldier is in a bad way they find a way out. After they get back we find that they had help, help from something or someone they could not see. Is there miraclous happenings in this world? Just ask a soldier and they will tell you yes. 's
