Smiling lips and painted faces,
Twirling gowns and glittering jewels
Ringing laughter and quiet giggles,
That convince only self-centered fools
Masks disguise the restrained hate,
The anger lurking beneath the skin
Sadness is hidden beneath each smile,
And the night has yet to begin
Lies claiming happiness and joy,
Are tales and nothing more
And all illusions of grandeur,
Disappear just outside the door
Weary feet walk beaten paths,
And cheerful masks slip away
As anger breaks the surface,
Revealed by the light of a new day
Author notes
So, this is pretty horrible in my own personal opinion but kept thinking the first two lines over and over again for whatever reason and then finished the thought. I wrote something, which is a step forward for me at least.
