I have never told you this but
the time was never right
and words were never apt or enough
or at times I was just too scared
to bare my soul even to you.
Yet today my whimsical oxymoron heart
yearns to lift all veils and reveal all
that when you hold my hand
as we cross a crowded road
knowing that you need not
when you never forget to wake me up
with a whispered kiss on my brow
sleepy and lethargic
when you let me cuddle up to you
even when my feet are cold
when you let me shop till
I drop in exhaustion
when you listen to my imagined grievances
without a word of reproval
when you just hold me close in the dark
or when astorm brews in the skies
when you bring me flowers from the woods
or a dress with no reason
when you stand some of my relative
that you cannot stand for me
when you endure with a grin my sulky silences
with crowning frowns on brows
when you let me be me
and never force me to change
when you wipe away my tears and
share silly laughter with me
when you know my desires
without my saying anything
when you indulge my whims
then I thank the heavens
That in this world wrought with compromises
and of making do with half measures
I have you with me forever and beyond...

And so it was, love as it should be told for all that would understand that love does live in the simple sometimes trivial gestures of the heart.
