Third Degree Burns

Every night is torture
I see your smile when I close my eyes.

Every day I stare at that stupid fucking clock
Waiting for the pain to stop
seconds tick by
it never does.

I have a feeling it never will.
time moves on and I don’t
I hear your laughter in the wind
It’s haunting.

I’m back there again
At the beginning.
When we weren’t about winning or losing.
For a few blissful days
being happy didn’t have repercussions.

Time never forgives me
And I know you won’t either.
Now all I can do is pretend to believe
That everything happens for a reason

And you were just a wrong turn
Some lesson that I needed to learn
There is a price to pay for playing with fire.
You live and you burn.

"You live and you burn." Wow. Powerful endings, reminds me of a quote "Play with fire and it will burn you. Play with love and it will break you." Anyway great job on the poem.
