Mikey The Midge

A troll that lived high on a ridge
was pestered by Mikey the Midge
to stop himself itching
and squirming and twitching
he sat in the mud ‘neath a bridge

Now Mikey the Midge with a heart
was sorry his friend did depart
he said he’d stop biting
and nipping and fighting
and made him a nice apple tart

Their friendship just blossomed and grew
and Mikey stuck close, just like glue
his pals gathered round
that troll in the ground
they hid 'neath the bridge, no-one knew!

  • Friendships sometimes form in the strangest places between the unlikeliest of people but it just goes to show that if fear of who and what we don't know is conquered we can find something very worthwhile. A good tale told in chain limerick form.

Delightful! For a troll to have a smidgeon of a friend in this dainty nipping midge is quite charming, and truly neither trolls nor midges are well known for their gracious behavior. It proves that everyone can improve, and indeed the next troll that I meet I will recommend to him the idea of situating his new delves under an appropriate bridge, especially if there's a near apple orchard for the friendly affectionate midges to play in.

Thank you for such a lovely comment ... you'll have to look carefully for trolls, they don't normally let you see them ... only when they want something from you!!!!

You know I've recently heard there were societies for the reformation of table manners in trolls, which are run by adventurous missionary grandmothers and dedicated to teaching them how to be appropriate guests at tea time. We could try there.

Oh Sue I just love your images

Where on earth did you find something so cute and ugly?

Read like a limerick an easy rhyme for a small child to remember
    I thought it was great.
    good luck with the contest.

Many thanks Patti for reading ... as to the pictures I just Googled them ... entered 'cartoon troll' and 'cartoon midge' and it came up with quite a few, but these were the two I liked the best.

Ah - the limerick - an under-appreciated form if ever there was one. These were perfect for the contest. And being a troll myself, I'm quite pleased with the outcome of the story (in a grumpy, trolly kind of way, of course)

There once was a troll name of Dunk
who lived in an old rotting trunk
      smelly and vile
      and never a smile
except when on beer he got drunk!

      Thanks for reading.
