It always seemed so easy
I could replace the love of my life without a glance
There were so many people exactly the same
I always wondered exactly how I was supposed to know
What made you so special?
Why weren't you just like all those other things?
How was I supposed to know who you were?
Because I could never really grasp that
I could get the concept, get the image
But when it really came down to it I didn't connect

I'm not really the best to tell you that you're special
And I don't think I have to try and explain why
I probably wouldn't know you from adam
You're more replace than a shoe
But everybody is to me
You've seen one shoe, you've seen them all
But when you actually try them on
The sole is different than the last pair you had
Same shoe, looks almost identical
But it's entirely different
You can't feel the ground under your feet with this sole
And that makes you sad
I've been there, I'd give anything to have those same old shoes
Before they got worn out and broken down
And now I can't get another pair
Because she'll never be you and they will never be them
Maybe I wanted that shoe, not the look-a-like
But they don't make them anymore
They figured this one was better
But it sucks
