Les Pensées Sur La Mort

The moon soars high up into full
The midnight bell doth mournfully toll
Fear into my marrow is slowly creeping
For death cometh to do his horrid reaping
And I feel he does want to claim my soul

I grasp my pen as I fearfully write
And pray that I make it through this night
I scribble my thoughts of what is coming soon
Underneath the light of this most silver moon
For death is not a contender with which to fight

I light a candle to chase away the growing dark
I find solace within the matches’ enchanting spark
Slowly the wick and the wax wastes away
Ending far before the coming break of day
Fading into my madness so wretched and stark

I clinch my fists as I feel the cold sweat
The fear takes me and makes me shudder and fret
I may not last to see the mornings glorious light
Which to me would be such a relieving sight
But I spend these hours awash in a sea of regret

The moon dropping quickly out of the sky
As the minutes to hours rapidly do fly
I ponder all of my deeds wasted in this existence
My poetry being my one and only subsistence
The last thing left after I finally die

    Dark as Hell

This poem is darkly powerful. Just the kind of poem that should inspire me to write something darkish... If ever this wins gold, do enter it in my contest called Golden Darkness. Lmao... The stanza that would definitely clinch the gold is this:
I light a candle to chase away the growing dark
I find solace within the matches’ enchanting spark
Slowly the wick and the wax wastes away
Ending far before the coming break of day
Fading into my madness so wretched and stark

Keep writing wonderfully. And good luck in this contest.

    Your Beautiful Friend (LMFAO),
    DRAY

    Incredible

Goddamnit man, this is one of the best poems I've read in a while. I loved the last stanza. It really paints the picture of a dying man despairing over his worthless existence. Kep it up man.

I really liked this piece. although I am not a fan of rhyme, this was done so very well...this stanza really stood out to me

I light a candle to chase away the growing dark
I find solace within the matches’ enchanting spark
Slowly the wick and the wax wastes away
Ending far before the coming break of day
Fading into my madness so wretched and stark

Oh what a heart wrenching write,
consumed in torment on a final night,
only a glimmer of a spark,
of hope with rising of the lark
