Give Me an Amen

Give me an Amen, I am begging please,

handle me quickly Lord, with gentle ease

I am losing it, I can't take much more

heart and souls splitting, to the very core

Tears are flowing, can you not hear my pleas?

~j~~j~~j~

Words I often whispered, down on my knees,

hands raised to Heaven and the Devil flees

Is there another miracle in store?

Give me an Amen!

~j~~j~~j~

Angels have arrived, I feel Your hands breeze

time is of essence, fates eternal squeeze

Lying to myself, I took a detour,

searching for answers, You opened the door

The battle is won and ol' Satan leaves...

Give me an Amen!

Author notes

This was in response to Griswolds Poem: and I say Amen

Rondeau

A Rondeau is a French form, 15 lines long, consisting of three stanzas: a quintet, a quatrain, and a
sestet with a rhyme scheme as follows: aabba aabR aabbaR. Lines 9 and 15 are short - a
refrain (R) consisting of a phrase taken from line one. The other lines are longer (but all of the
same metrical length).

    Amen!

Whatever similarity of experience I might have with anyone, I know that I can never say I know how you feel. So let me say how this makes me feel.

Should I face a time when there is nothing I can do but pray, I pray I may as you have here. God knows my vanity and absent heart when things are fine, but I hope that in the trying times I'll trust his love and grace with a contrite heart and true humility. I would never ask for troubles to renew my faith, but bless you, Darlin', if through yours I and others seek his grace on your behalf and find a portion spared for those who pray for you.

The compelling nature of the poem is not dependent on its form which is used to fine effect. Rather, it is the heartfelt content of faith, not blind, but with eyes wide open.

(I have visited your page, your poems and your contests from time to time, but I can't recall if I have ever stopped to comment. Just let me say you've given me smiles and thrills and the occasional blush, but most of all I have been touched with all the great things others on the site have said to and about you. You are some kind of special, but you knew that!)

    A M E N (Caps intended)

I love the way you have worded this beautiful piece. It's such that almost everyone can relate with.

Imagine a world where all we ask for is granted instantly! One can only imagine the chaos that would cause. However, God knows our heart desires and he will grant our pressing needs.

    Thanks for sharing.

Wetend to turn to the Lord in dark times. This made me smile with how strong this was. When you give God glory the devil will try to turn you at first then run if you stay strong. Wonderful work as always SH
