when hopes and dreams fade away.
What is given is only a temperal thing,
as it's taken away to what may it bring.
The question of why,
my heart wants to cry.
A young man's life ends,
all do try to comprehend.
Dreams now shatter,
what does it matter.
He walked like you and me,
wondering how could this be.
I look out in my back yard,
just know this is very hard.
Here yesterday, now no more,
Blinds down, the closed door.
No life is no longer there,
he's gone, do we care?
Neighbors love one another,
recognize your sister or brother.
Dying alone seems awefully empty,
never to marry or more ministry.
Great is the reward, Heaven bound,
the neighbors never heard a sound.
Close to home more ways than one,
my father was young, they lost a son.
Young men dream forever dreams,
cut short is now what it all seems.
Live for the day,
never cease to pray.
No one knows the when,
serve Him until your end.
When someone leaves earth,
awaken, receive new birth.
Time can be very short,
vanity is vain, don't abort.
Do something to make a change,
aware that things do re-arrange.
Take what is precious to behold,
it may be gone tomorrow...you've been told.
Author notes
On 11/1/09 my neighbor who lives right behind me was found dead on his living room floor...he was only 55. My father died at the age of 49 on 11/14/09 nearly 19 years ago. John was at the point of being on fire for God, recognized a ministry he loved doing...always dreamed of having a wife. Still haven't learned what has happened to him, he worked out at a gym. Our doors are only a few feet away so it hasn't sunk in that he is not at work, he is not at a function...he is just not no more. Selah.
Selah means think on this, are you awakened to awareness?

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your neighbor. Such a moving and emotional tribute to him. There are no promises for tomorrow, for sure. Time grows shorter by the hour. To hold grudges and keep the bitterness locked up inside you without reconciliations only destroys your eternal soul. Such a stirring and sad write, sis. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and we should take great confort in knowning that. Don't have the answers to why some people's dreams end so suddenly.
Love and Blessings, Sis

Profound and wise...
Sublime lines on a sensitive subject... "Nothing Guaranteed" has a message: "LET THOSE WHO LIVE CONSIDER THE PRECIOSITY OF LIVING AND THE GRACE OF LIFE".
Blessed be the life and the living of the author of this magnificent compostion.

Chills running up and down my arms
reading your poignant words,
thinking of you seeing the closed blinds,
the nevermore to come out the door.
A theme often runs thru my words as they
fly to the page---as in love the moment,
appreciate what one has, share joy with others,
for moments fly way so quickly until there are no more...
A beautiful, thoughtful tribute and reminder, Denise.
