A constellation without its sun will die;
no longer engulfed by light’s warm rays
the sky an exposed space no longer vast
emptied of a presence spliced to survival.
The hole serrated by the sun’s absence
unfathomable within each distinct world;
a chasm that can never be fully forged
but cauterized by layers of time’s rings.
Numbed to existence colors fade to grey
excluding history’s scenes which feel alive
with touch scents precious looks and comfort’s sounds
re-enacted within the empty silence.
A sun lost can never be replaced yet
she leaves a piece of herself implanted
hoping that seed will transcend limits she faced
to blush incandescent their combined essence.
Though black now holds other colors in exile
turquoise magenta vermillion have not fled.
Rather they wait patiently for your return home
to enclose you within their grace and warmth.
no longer engulfed by light’s warm rays
the sky an exposed space no longer vast
emptied of a presence spliced to survival.
The hole serrated by the sun’s absence
unfathomable within each distinct world;
a chasm that can never be fully forged
but cauterized by layers of time’s rings.

My mother passed away last summer so I wanted to share these feelings.

I am saddened to hear of your loss, mgmc.
But how expressively you access those feelings to come to the comfort of another walking that shadowy path. Thank you for sharing with Carol... with us...

"Though black now holds other colors in exile

Rather they wait patiently for your return home
to enclose you within their grace and warmth."
and such is comfort for a time when comfort seemed so far away - you brought her close to me again! Ty, pen friend.

This is lovely
if the image is the prompt, you have labeled the image well. If it was the life event you mention in the AN, you have created a fine testament.

A stunning picture!
And beautiful words to compliment it. I loved the metaphor...exellently done. So sorry about your mum, this is a lovely tribute.

Your second and third stanzas say it all, my Friend. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with our beloved Scribe, Marlene. Good luck in William's contest, Sweetie.
