Return Flight

Above the clouds, my heart went out.
I carved a tender piece of soul,
And left it there waiting for you.

Another life shall find us there
To claim this sad, sweet offering with joy.
In another life we’ll love again.

We went back to earth,
Gliding through a brilliant crimson sunset.
Back to earth with less heart than before,
An expensive one-hour flight.

We turn to each other, sudden strangers.
We’ll forget this event for 1,000 years.

well, it's meant in the sense that the love expressed is stronger than the bodies we possess, and will last, waiting, beyond our lives. The poem relies on some notion of eternal souls, that love lasts longer than the dust that we'll become. Thanks for reading.
