I will be so lost when you are gone
fifty seven years we have been married
friends before that when we were children
you are one of the first persons I remember
playing hid and seek in the twilight
behind the big trees
gigging for frogs in the pond
trying to sit still in church
you running away first day of school
because some one told you the teacher
would whip you
the growing up years we grew apart
you out grew me, four years mattered
when I was twelve and you were eighteen
you went into the Navy right out of high school
the same time I started
I didn't see you when you came home
then it was three years before you came home again
I was in my senior year
we were drawn to gather like magnets
the first day you was home
I walked out of church and there you stood
I walked right into your arms
now we are in our golden years
your brain had been abused by strokes
three in just over a year
I expect the next one will be the last
Our time is running out
but the going will be as beautiful
as the coming to gather
