Poems are Fingers

Poems are extensions of our heart and soul.
In  this way they can be more than just Fingers.
They can be Footprints.
They can be Imaginmative.
They can be Creative.
They can b e Romantic.
They can be Magical
or
They can be full of Secrets and Mystery.

Poems to me are all of these.
There are no rules to what you say
Or how it is said.
You can even invent words or shorten them.
My definition of poetry is...
Writing anything from within one's heart.

Poetry is more too than just feelings.

It is emotions combined with our thought.
It is also experiences of Beauty and Nature too.
Poetry is one of God's Gifts.
What we don't use...we loose.

So if you are a poet or not
Take out a pen and just write.
You may be surprised at what you feel
and
Even if you don't become famous.
Your thoughts can be shared...
Even becoming legacies of the past.

Author notes

This prompt, "Poems are Fingers," may tell more than descriibe what poetry is but I think there is no true definition of what poetry is.....Poetry is an art and the poet it just the artist of his/her thoughts...What thoughts have you not written down?

One thing we expect from poetry, it seems, is emotional honesty. It's good to see this aspect addressed in your poem. You're right, there are no rules, and everyone has a unique view of the situation!

I like the idea of poetry being part of the legacy of the past, like snapshots of time and place.

Thank you for this entry into the contest.

Fantastic.I agree wholeheartedly.People tend to write from experience, feelings, thoughts and beliefs and a poem is just a way of presenting this. For that reason, I don't believe there are any good poets or bad poets, we can all be poets.I loved the line poetry is an extension of our heart and soul. When people think they are not a good poet, they are, because its their thoughts and feelings, its just that sometimes we lack confidence in putting it across.I think your poem would give confidence to a budding poet and thats one of the greatest gifts.Montey

A love poem to poetry itself - as you say, there are no rules, only the ones you yourself apply.

    Well done,

I like this. You are very right. Poetry is an extension of who we are. That is why I offered to print books for poets on this site, so they could see their name and be proud of what they have done. I don't know if I could go without writing.
