i too

I too sing America
I am the next generation
This generation
The teenage generation
The one that cause eyes to stare
For the social norms broken effect in fear
I smile for change is well in need
And I be myself
And I grow on

Your eyes mocking that of wise
For you are the generation of judgement

You look down on those that are not you
The generation before you too old and slow for your wisdom
And the generation after you to young and ignorant for your time

But I am part of what you are
Or what you were in previous years
Only now you are what you promised yourself not to be
The generation before you, at the age of you now
From when you were part of my generation

You judge my generation
Yet forget who raised me
Who I take after
Whose reflection I am.

You forget who you take after
And whose reflection you are

You blame my age for my mistakes
For it could not just have been a mistake
It must have been my underdeveloped brain
When word you curse slip into my vocabulary
It is at the fault of my fellow people
Of my generation

Though I do not fret
For in the years to come I will take your place
But I will not judge
I will keep the promise to myself
That you promised yourself and did not keep

Then in the years to come you will take the place
Of the generation before you
And it will be my turn to judge
For you will then be too old and slow for my wisdom

But I will not

And my children,
the generation after me
Will not have my eyes looking down on them
For I will change this America
One person at a time
For
I, too, am America.

is it really horrid?

It is much harder, harder than you could possibly think, to break the chains of those that came before. The flower power of the sixties became yuppies and the members of the establishment they once fought. My generation watched our future sent overseas for the benefit of the wealthy.
We too, once thought to change the world, now too many have forgotten.
Not all of us look down our noses at you, not all of you deserve our respect.
Respect must be earned, it is not something to be won or deserved out of a birthright.
You stand and yell to the past, "understand us", yet you do not attempt to understand us.
    We too, are America.
    Peace

i know where you are coming from and i agree with you no one generations people is the same. i agree with all you said. only that wasnt the assignment. i would have written it different if i could have. only the teenage is on an overly hormonal rampage. im doing things how she wants them.

It's not really horrid at all!

I got a little lost in some places, but the overall message is definatly clearly written all over this piece. I like it! I think it is well done!
