    I do not often attempt to read poems in languages other than English for fear of not appreciating the poetry. This poem, however, is phonetically and imagistically beautiful in both Spanish and English.

    If I may:

    Istanbul, my love!

    Istanbul, celestial city
    of the sweetest dreams,
    this beautiful blue sleeper
    of the lovely Bosphorus

    I have read stories and some of the history of this ancient city, but I have not heard it spoken of so lovingly.
