Kneeling in the sand
Backs ups against the wall,
Burning sun, blistering heat.....
Heavy helmet, Heavy body armor
God I hate this place......
What stands between me and them.....?
Is it religion, is it the language, is it belief?
Or is it simply this mud wall?
Who are they anyway?
Sons, brothers, uncles, fathers….. Isn’t that just like me?
Are they ready for the whirlwind of pain and hell that’s coming?
Am I?
Do I hate these people?
Do I know them to hate?
Do I even know hate
No more time to think
No more time to hate
Bayonet is fixed.........
What did you think

I agree...
with the previous comment - a solid piece that reveals humanity within duty.

Bravo...
This is what I expect from soldiers. Yet determination. This is a solid piece poet. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by the 143rd CSSAMO and ask for Mike.
