walking right up
when you don't
even have
a clue to their name
are you insane
Look in their eyes now
tears rolling down
to the ground
the sadness
has no part of you
what would you do
I will reach out to you
to lend a helping hand
I will reach out to you
and give you what I can
Sitting there staring
lost in the dark
you create
for yourself
trapped within your chains
no one to blame
I will help you see
that you are loved
and that you
do not have
to face this alone
truth shall be known
I will reach out to you
to lend a helping hand
I will reach out to you
and give you what I can
Author notes
Ok-so McCartney it is not...I played about a little with "Elanor Rigby"-here is a set of alternate lyrics. I wanted to look at the subject from more than one viewpoint.
Society seems to have a real issue with being bothered by anyone but themselves. They could not imagine stopping to help a stranger in need. They are so wrapped up within themselves, how could they possibly have time to care.
If a friend just drops off the radar, do you notice? It can be just as hard to admit that you need help as it is to notice it is needed.
Just my viewpoint.
Never could come up with anything for the "Ahhhh look at all the lonely people" part.
If anyone is offended by my appropriation of a splendid tune, grow up.
I sang Elanor at Kareoke once, the folks really didn't get it, they loved Dear Prudence.

I like this for at least two reasons...it has a nice healthy message of compassion, and probably because I have a kinda pre occupation for this type of thing...quite often you can turn a song inside out, or just decide what it means to you, and rewrite it accordingly!
Nice work, me heap big Beatles fan btw!
Cheers
John

Thanks for the read, comment and such.
I have most of their stuff on cd, some of it the British versions. The Beatle's Rock N Roll Music was the first LP I bought for myself.
I often find myself thinking of how I might express the message of a lyric, or sometimes I will be writing and find I already know the tune.
Try this, you can fit the lyrics to "You can't always get what you want" by The Stones and fit them into the old ghost pony song, "Wildfire" many lyrics will slide into other songs.

I love the sentiment of this. I love that you're not afraid to open up and say, "Hey this is me and this is what I would do despite what anyone else would do." It is such a rare trait to find in anyone anymore. I try to do my best to be that hand that sticks out for a friend in their time of need. But sometimes that friend would prefer to sit in the darkness they have created and no amount of pulling can drag them out. And I'm sad to say I have been a culprit of creating my own darkness and wanting to wallow in it. But, I finally took hold of the offered hands and let my friends who stuck around pull me out. And any time I feel I want to run back to my dark hole I turn to my friends instead. It is the strongest of us who reach down to offer help, and just as strong are those who reach up to accept it That's everything that this made me think of. Fabulous!

Thank you for the read and commentary!!!
I have been pulled back from the brink and been the one throwing the rope. You have it right, I have built my walls high and thick, the forests and fens of despair and depression can make it hard to find the door. Thankfully, every once in a while you hear someone knocking and find your way out....for a while anyway. I think that you pretty much nailed the second part of the work.
Thanks again,
Peace

Isn't it a strange thing that "society" seems to feel that we dreamers get in the way.
