Curtain Call

I can dream of the evenings where I'm the only one you miss
I live to be the one you long to hug, the one you long to kiss
But if I can't give you everything you want and need
Please, let me give you this

Ten months may seem so long but disaster was bound to find
Our simple kind of love that I couldn't wrap around my mind
Couldn't sleep throughout the day because we had to seize the night
Two kids, at their best, nothing could've felt more right

Disillusioned memories would find us at our best
The nights that we were sure to remember are all now put to rest
I find it best to walk into traffic as you'd rather just walk away
Wasting all this time and destroying memories

What are you really winning? The answer isn't clear
You can hide from all the world but I'm still standing here
An empty love, a broken heart, disaster drawing near
All that's left of our last night, simple for you but it's my biggest fear

Why do you kiss him harder?
Why do you love to say his name?
How can I be replaced this easily
With a boy who would put any face to your name?

So today, I'll take my final bow
Where to go from this place just isn't known
In time, you'll finish your process of forgetting me
In time, I'll just stab this heart and die alone

Author notes

Written on October 31st, I figured I'd post it on AllPoetry today. It's real, and that's what matters to me.

Wow. Good thing you posted it because it's amazing. And you're right..it's real. Perhaps the only real poem in this contest. I really enjoy your take on the prompt. I think the reason I like it so much is because you literally pulled the words out of my throat. Only a few other people in this contest have done that. Thanks for entering and good luck!
