I am a jailhouse
The one that detains all that the world hates.
I am just one infamous jail
With cold cruel bars and vile gates
Much like hell.
Alas, I live for this one mission
To keep societies debtors locked away
For I am a prison.
I am a cold jail wanting the warmth of day.
I would rather be a lighthouse
Standing tall and favored above all
And how I would like to shed this visage of plight.
Would you want to be a miserable jailhouse?
Than to bring light during the cold night?
Having the purpose of guiding lost ships to a safe dock
Than to put away poor souls under a heavy lock.
I would rather be a lighthouse on this rocky isle
Than to cope watching them cut from the chains with a rusty file.
I would keep my eye on everything across the skies
And all would keep an eye on me when the sun has yet to rise.
Nevermore will I be the spectacle of hostile sentences
Or be the home for bitter, hungry, overcrowded guests.
No more will I inflict grievances at the king’s request.
No more will I be seen as a chamber of tortures.
My real purpose should be to save souls bound for the rocky shores.

this poem is one that I spent many revisions to make it work. Poetry to me should tell a story in every way, so it needs a plot with contrasting or conflicting actions/reactions. This story still hold some truth even after I read it more times.
