Beneath The Snow

As the bright autumn leaves turn brown,
winds are blowing them to the ground.
November rains saturate with a dreary gloom,
summer's flowers will soon meet their doom.

Trees barren with no leaves for a garment,
the change brings a moody time to lament.
Frost has made it's debut as chill gives a blow,
soon branches will wear icy sleeves that glow.

Glowing when the sunbeams bring some heat,
forcasts of snow will be at least three feet.
Gazing upon the land covered all in white,
makes everything look new in winter's light.

Whiter than snow is the word in my mind,
still winter's breath seems fridid, less kind.
Old man winter does his best to sing lullaby blues,
bulbs are blanketed in the earth rather subdued.

Being nestled in my hearth to warm my soul,
thoughts of new plants emerge to console.
The cold hand of winter can't even steal,
seeds promise a newness of hope surreal.

The comforts of home while the winds harshly howl,
when nights are darkest early, the sun takes a bow.
After the snowflakes weaved a soft white blanket,
leaves are replaced by a glistening garment now set.

Looking out my window shows why winter must come,
the beauty is the only thing I behold in the outcome.
Don't like to feel chilled to the bone, yet know the reason,
snow is like living water to replenish for the next season.

Snow is whiter than white and yet it is not, it is an illusion, in fact it is grey

This is a beautiful quatrain with wonderful imagery, I love reading winter poetry because we don't have a winter here in South Florida so it's refreshing.

    Love,
    Amera

    Hey There - beautiful write

there is a season for a reason for sure - i relate to the last line - brings back memories about 50 years ago i was working in a boat yard on The Fraser River - it was freshet so the river was real high and my co-worker asked me "where is all that water going to" - lol - I replied that "it's all coming back" as it has for who knows how many years - I like your rhyme and flow and content - today I was raking maple leaves for bedding for my cows - makes excellent bedding - that is if they don't eat it - lol - I would change one line - "The comforts of home while the North winds blow"

    SO, SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Winter is something I don't truly like all that much only because of its cold. Yet I force myself to go out midst the snow, the cold, the wet that seeps into ones very bones and am never disappointed. Always among the bareness and bleakness I can usually find a beauty, a very special beauty only the cold of winter can provide. I do have my down times during the early darkness and chill , also so many wonderful moments when I am in awe so something especially beautiful around me.
