Where The Sun Never Shines

Intrigued I've always been at the goings on across the moorland,
turning numerous, speculative nights into sleepless frustrations
There as far as the eye could see stretched a vastly made shed,
a building lonely in its proximity to the surrounding necropolis

From my bedroom window I watched each night these souls arrive,
quietly they approached the shed in a dozen or more black vans
Souls dressed in all black, caskets long and darkly I saw them carry,
so minacious feelings, a sinister scheming appeared to be looming

On this one particular deathly night, curiosity got the better of me,
thus I made my way sneakingly towards the mysterious ghastliness
Ever so slowly I gambled for fear of being noticed in the moonlight,
step by step, by gruelling minutes too I slogged forth into insanity

For upon reaching the edge of my worth, such horror lay before me,
and a realization of fear penetrated my mind, froze me in my tracks
Ugly skeletons dressed in black, that be the horror to befall my view,
a sepulchral offering of the strangest kind, macabre in its very nature

Asphyxia, devolving my evasive shield, dark angels of death to haunt,
Kill my fear, impress in me their death cheer, zombie armies undead
Here I learnt of my roll, my unnatural roll of caretaker to the risen,
a sentinel of the darkest order, elevating death back amongst liberty

Us living mortals that be, freedoms child hanging pretty on life's edge,
awaiting entry into deaths haven, a place where the sun never shines
Yet while we strive to die for deaths sake, death it seems wants out,
thus to breathe again, thus to walk amongst the living in eternal bliss

Broken limbs, bones of old, alien and unrepentant, trying for rebirth,
and some as dark sentinels guiding the masses, driving them onwards
Asylum seeking zombies on a crusade, striving for life above ground,
thus they become as one with the living again, like creatures of vision

So here I was, a sentinel of life, ensnared by death itself to propagate,
bring forth its kind, for the sentinels of death could not crossover alone
Such was their dilemma, thus I unknowingly became their gateway to life,
their token angel of light, mending their broken bones and hearts so cold

Where the sun never shines, a place morbid and lifeless, crying for blood,
the life blood, so slaves of death, doctors unstable came upon a solution
In a shed so vastly they caused such change in the natural order of things,
and so the regrowth of human flesh, back onto dead bones was envisaged

Now the walking dead seem invincible, souls in black spat forth from hell,
led by myself as life, and a hoard of benighted sentinels from deaths keep
Here my roll as sentinel shall never end, for my worth should last forever,
and so deaths promise is laid upon me, that to render and I shall never die

Author notes

When hell becomes overpopulated, the dead will stop at nothing
to re-enter the world of the living and take control of us all.

A really Great piece of prose here. The storyline was excellent, filled with the dark and macabre. The imagery and flow were perfect...Loved these lines....
