I mean, The Speakeasy
where last year
my nose caught
a fist
four, or five, or
six times.
She went on dancing in a pile of skirts
mostly her own
while I teetered in front
of the illegal bar
where no one
offered me a shot of anything.
The late nineties cover band continued
playing songs about waitresses
in coffee shops.
Stood beside the clattering pool table
and confessed my concerns to Zoey.
Slurring on about her and Taylor
how they might become
“a lesbian power couple”
causing the whole world
to crumble
under the gaze of their pretty
flecked eyes.
All the most aesthetically pleasing
people in the world
are fucking each other.
I'm in the corner
tapping my heel
to some broken drum.
Sipping on whatever you
decide to hand me
feeling listless
and brilliantly numb.
