What are the chances...a Motorcycle legacy

What are the chances my friend
when you add up all the coincidences

and where do you began
to tell the story of a motorcycles birth
and to track its life until it departs this earth
I guess we should start
where it was made
In a foreign land, almost completely handmade

Japan would create thousands of such bikes

Twenty Six years ago (1983) and all alike

Then a few of these would be shipped

fully equipped to the United States

Shinny and new in wooden crates

And upon arrival sold
...you see fun...translates

Now the story gets interesting

as you will see

From that journey across the sea

one of those bikes eventually was bought by me

An old guy with no claim to fame

with a broken bike, an old refrain

You see back in High School

I bought my first bike

an old broken down dirt type

and within just days it failed to run

I think the seller was having fun

But, I got a bug, that bit me

and just wouldn't go away

and despite the ruggedness of it

I would return again and again

to riding the roads, even in Thailand

But, then Thirty years would pass

and I thinking it would ever last

and my brother one day bought a bike

convincing me to try it dispite

my lack of riding for so many years

I thought he would be killed

..almost brought me to tears

Thinking of the freeway jerks

those with cell phones and girly quirks

Makeup and rouge, hair brushes and creams

Don't they realize their precursors to screams

He talked me into riding that day

and I talked him into selling that bike

and now I've been on three more

with ten's of thousands of miles explored

Then one day I bought this bike

a full dress freeway cruiser not a trike

and began to put on some serious miles

tens of thousands in just four years

I parked my truck in storage, a new frontier

You see, I became a daily rider

one of those you see every single day

riding their bikes dispite stormy weather delays

Then the inevitable happened again

and my electonic dashboard failed, my friend

Now they only made that dash just that year

so long ago, twenty six years

Where would I find another

I tried craigslist and ebay

and discovered four

Wow! Four!

Now ebay is quite the place

where only fools rush to place

their bids... like little kids

and without thought or reason

they do buy, junk, trinkets,

and other such unneeded supply

But, occasionally there is a need

to buy something rare indeed

I had that need, you see

and there were four

But, the prices ranged from hundreds

to thousands and more

For just three of the four

I was discouraged as this bike is old

putting out that kind of money

Well, the truth be told

The bike isn't worth that kind of expense

and perhaps I should, with the bike, dispense

Then just puttering around

I began to browse with a frown

just mindlessly looking at one ad after the other

and suddenly mis-catorigized there was another

An electronic dash, no bids had been placed

There it was, kinda hiding its glowing face

You see another bike just like mine

had made the journey of a lifetime

and this bike just happened to be

on sale....I placed a bid...a tiny fee ($20)

Then for days I watched that space

no other bids would be placed.

Now how is it that I'm the only one

to place a bid, the other three now are gone

So many wanted that dash

I expected it to be lost in last second flash

But, the bidding ended and I was alone

and that dash...had found a new home

The seller must have been surprised

as that dash was worth hundreds more

Yet, she shipped it and included inside

was a note thanking me ...Why thank you Renee.

It arrived and all was as advertised

the dash was complete and all parts inside

It was then that I was taken aback

My God! Would you LOOK AT THAT!

You see, dispite the years, distances and miles

Dispite completely different owner riding styles

Both bikes were ridden almost entirely the same

How could the mileage be....

Only Fifty One miles apart...you see!

That is a crazy coincidence about the mileage, and a major fluke that you won that item with one $20 bid. It was meant to be! Cool story.
