From the moment you became a part of my world
I took you to heart as my little girl
Only seven years old when you came to live with us
You were so serious and rarely made a fuss
A great imagination you possessed as well
And I indulged it with made up fairy tales
You were princess Danielle, your daddy the king
My job was to care for you both as the queen
I remember you wishing you could call me mom
This only served to strengthen our growing bond
Coming home from school you cried in my arms
When the other kids failed to fall for your charms
I assured you that it would all be okay
And you would be sure to make friends one day
Over the years I watched you blossom and grow
Making good grades always pleased you so
When doing homework you gave it your best
Earning respect from teachers as you aced each test
No child ever enjoyed school as much as you
Making us proud in all that you chose to do
In 2008 you graduated from Meade County High
Making the top ten percent, you were flying high
I cried when you joined the National Guard
I knew that you had thought about it hard
Finally deciding that it was your destiny
I convinced your daddy to let you fly free
Now you have met the love of your life
And on this day you will become his wife
All grown up, such a beautiful bride
As dad and I burst with pride inside
May today be the start of dreams coming true
And happiness be yours in all that you do
The love that I feel for you will never go away
The little girl that I raised is in my heart to stay
With much love and pride I just want to say
God bless you both and happy wedding day

A child doesn't have to come from your womb to love them, they have only to enter your heart. She will always treasure every word of this poem. Well done as a mother and as a writer.

Thanks for the great comment. I'm actually surprised at how easy this was to write. I was worried I would have a hard time. LOL
