Lost Innocence

there is that point in youth
where a child grasps the meaning of death

not necessarily grief
over a specific loss

but a sobering understanding
of the intrinsic concept

it happened to me;
I wrote about it
secretly

when it happened to him,
fear and sadness, for days,
haunted.

I bought him a Spider-Man comforter.

who sleeps with it now?
I'm the one.

    Ah, what we cling to,
    Touching turn-around in the ending.

Very good. I loved the concept. It truly does show the real learned truth about death. When you grasp that particular point. And you showed how death is scary once you learn about the real truth. I like this one. Good luck in this contest!

    Wow

A very powerful ending that really does hit you hard. You used the image of the 'Spider-Man comforter', which is child-like and humourous and then followed that up with pain and loss. Great writing.
