A Sparrow's Escape.

With fragile bones
And a mute voice
Rests the sparrow
Within her corroded cage.

Her heart was swollen
With hopes of flying-
Hopes of one day singing
While escaping under the yellow sun.

She had silver stars in her eyes,
Masked over by the sorrow
Of being kept prisoner behind
Such rusted, locked bars.

With struggle, the lock finally
Gave way to her awaited freedom.
With struggle, she flies free under
The beautiful sun, and onward through
The night, under the silver stars.

Author notes

For my friend Sparrow. ♥ Every contest subject like this one makes me think of her, and while we haven't been as close as we were, she needs to know that I still love her and care about her and will always be there to help unlock the cage.

For the contest I picked option #5: Fly free, my little bird.

This is a metaphor of life; locked up in our own cages, sometimes self-imposed and sometimes not, wanting to be free. Trying to find escape--some people can and become free, others can't and live their lives in darkness. Live out their lives, already dead inside. This was well done, very inspirational!!! Thank you for writing this!!!

    I read this earlier... but I couldn't comment because I was so... so speechless, and blown away. ;o;
Throughout the day I thought about it a few times and wondered if I could find the words to express how much this means to me... and now I've decided that I can't. But I really, really love it, and it's very me... *touched*
May I put it on my front page? ;__; ♥

wow. To me this tells a story, of a person's struggle and the pain of it and the triumph of finally being free. It's sad and sweet and memorable. Very interesting spin on the prompt. very good all in all. Best of luck!

This is really sweet, hon'. I know she'll definitely appreciate this more than she might ever be able to express. =3 I think it's important to remind someone you still care, especially if said people have drifted apart a little over time. This is a very beautiful sentiment. ♥
