I Apologise

It's been a trying week or so
My writing has been slack
Since our flamin modem
Had it's fatal heart attack.

I couldn't get my head around
Dial-up by the hour
The wires that lead to our place
Just ain't got no power.

To say it was frustrating
Is the understatement of the year
I worried about those wires
And creativity slipped its gears

Now I have the latest model modem
and my internet is on again
I apologise to those I've missed,
Sorry for being a pain.

Living out of sight of the cities
With all its pros and cons
Means we await the pleasure
Of those delivery dons.

If you need something in a hurry,
And  it's not sold everyday,
You will wait and worry,
In case it's damaged on its way.

The travel god was kind to me
My modem is just fine
And I'll catch up with everyone
As soon as I have time.

Author notes

Sorry everyone. Life wasn't meant to be easy, but - if you can hang in there it will be all right in the end.

It takes a special kind of talent to pen something this clever, and about something that those of us who are "technologically challgened" can ALL relate to. This was great! I've buried a modem or two myself, so I understand the pain and heartache you suffered. LOL Wonderful write, my friend. Most clever!

A special thank you for your very complimentary comment. It was a most frustrating time which I probably could have used to greater advantage by writing in my processor. However, that was not to be. The weeds in the garden suffered instead.

What a creative way to explain your absence. I have been away myself, so I didn't realise you had modem problems and had not been here. I'm glad it's all sorted out for you now. Yes, you may have to wait a little longer to get things when you live in the country, but I'm sure the view out of your window is worth every bit of the wait. Alby

Yes Alby, the view out the window is well worth the trials of living out here.We have had the absolute delight of watching Magpies rear their young, right outside the window.
Thanks for dropping in and so pleased to see you back.

I think you kept your patience under tight restraint here! Thank you for the humour within the frustration.

Looking back now, it had its moments when frustration almost boiled over. It was not all bad. I managed to get a very large heap of weeds transferred from their growing habitat to the compost heap.
I was busy with Authonomy and my book at the time and that was very frustrating. Such is life.
Thank you for visiting my poetic rambles, good to see you.

    Ha!

What a bummer! I kicked my lap-top into the middle of next week a little back, and found myself going to Internet cafes to get my fix!

Ah, my friend, the computer was not at fault. The modem had a fatal heart attack and while the new one was coming via express courier from west Africa or somewhere I had dial-up. Free dial-up mind you. The problem was it auto-disconnected when it felt like it. With the new modem coming anytime I did not ring up and go through the hour or so needed to get dial-up working, I just went outside and tried to tidy up the mess I call my garden. All is well again and I can get my fix at anytime at all once more.

many thanks Lulu. I found a bit of time to write in my computer but the frustrations of 'auto-disconnect' had a very disconcerting effect on writing anything. Such is life.

Great poem, Bob and am glad to hear that you are up and running at full steam once again. Can seem quite awkward when you drop from broadband to dialup. You created a wonderful piece here about your past woes with your sick modem and it went over beautifully, but I don't think you need go apologizing as we all have our little ups and downs....and besides, we ain't going nowhere. Great piece.

It's funny how the poetry muse went kabung with the modem. I wrote quite a bit of the farm book in word, but the poetry just went blank. they say that life wasn't meant to be easy; but if you hang in there it will be all right in the end. Pretty true I think. We eacvh have our ups and downs and it does usually come right in the end.
      Cheers and many thanks Lee.

    Ha ha....a great poem Bob.
Funny isn't it....to be without a computer for a bit, makes you realise how much you use and depend on it for all manner of reasons.
Of course AP keeps going on without us, but WE really miss the communication etc.
It's great to get back & find, sometimes to our surprise, so many have missed our presence
    here.
Anyway, good to see you back Bob.

It was not the fact that I had no computer; I have a very good one, but it wasn't connected to anything. I got a bit tired of writing in Word and getting no responses. That is what I missed, the interaction with other people on the net. Lovely to see you, Anne.

Hi John. Life goes on Mate, and the garden is now free of rubbish. I should say, what passes for a garden. It's very very dry. Thanks for your support. See you again soon.

All these little trials and tribulations are sent to test us, I think. I did get a lot of work done in the garden, but mostly just cleaning up rubbish. It's too dry fro gardens right now. No rain for months. Thanks for your thoughts and comments.

    Glad you're back

Hi Cherry. I wouldn't have minded the slow speed of dial-up but ours decided to auto-disconnect at the most inopportune times. So I checked messages and emails and left it at that. I did get a lot of gardening done. lol!!

Lol we had the same problem when we changed our provider a few years ago. Everytime it went I would be on the phone for hours being talked through different re-set up steps Eventually after several weeks and replacing the modem twice it started to settle down!!
And to think I once lived without the computer
I bet your garden looks great I keep trying to get my son's out to do some work in mine but thye hate gardening
Lol never mind I'll keep doing the exercises and maybe next spring I will be able to do some myself

I gave up with our dial-up and just did messages and emails. Now that we have our speed up and a good connection again I am fast getting caught up with everyone. My garden is as rough as can be. No rain for months now in our area and it's almost impossible to keep some things going. I have some things in pots and move them around to get a bit of shade. A few weeks ago it was so cold we had fire to keep the house warm, now we have trouble getting it cool. Our day temps have gone from max 18 to 42 in three weeks. it's normal for mother nature to be like that but it does cause a few minor hiccups with ones lifestyle.
You take care and you'll be able to prune the roses next year.lol.
          Cheers
          Bob.

Hi Dan. The penalty for living outside the ' square' is trying to get things you need that are not everyday items. I could have driven down to the city but six hours each way was a bit much for an old guy like me. Thanks Dan, good to be back to a sort of normal.

I shall be writing on Bob. thanks to all the support from people like yourself.

I am glad to be back. I missed my contact with friends on site. our dial-up went haywire at times and simply shut down for no reason, so I didn't use it much.
