Christmas Tragedy

December snow on the ground,
A black ice covered road,
A teenage boy roadside found,
One ambulance rushed to the scene.

Emergency room bound,
A life was lost that day,
Friends gathered all around,
No one knew what to say.

Christmas Eve tragedy filled,
Tears fell without a sound,
Blood that shouldn't've spilled,
A soul, heaven bound.

His funeral day quickly came,
Friends and family in attendence,
Songs of sorrow all the same,
The quiet sound of sobs.

The casket walked out of the church,
Soft tears rolling down saddened faces,
Driving by an old white birch,
A million hearts held empty spaces.

He still lives on in our hearts,
His presence will never part,
Forever never forgotten.

R.I.P Ian Pope.

Author notes

This poem is dedicated to Ian Pope. He was killed last year, the day before Christmas Eve, in a car accident. He was a friend of mine and a really sweet boy. He knew how to tell when something was wrong and always tried to comfort that person. I miss him greatly but he will never be forgotten.

    RIP Ian. <33

I only met him once, on a summer bus trip to Knoebel's. I still can't believe that happened, and that it's almost been a year. This class won't ever forget him, I think. His death is one of those things that will remain for entire lifetimes, especially those of Gary and Chris. Ian was one of the few guys in the school who was actually really nice. He was a good kid.
