one toe over the water
feeling subuded after the slaughter
the mud on her dress
is forgotten in the stress
run for so long
she is emptied of song
feet are cracked and sore
as is the hope she once bore
long, mouse-brown hair is matted
with tears 'a splated
all over her face
she can't face the disgrace
c lutching the oak for support
it's serving as her escort
even with it's roughness under her fingers
the fear still lingers
those shadows, chashing in the night;
chasing until the sky turned light
her family killed, one by one
not stopping until their lives were done.
safety she has found
even though her family is underground
afraid of the future, terrified of the past
on a new track now, her life has been recast

You did a great job relating to the picture here. This poem is so full of despair and sadness. Very emotional. Thanks so much for entering. Blessings, Patty
