i used to hate going to the park as a toddler.
Jimmy lee would take my pigtails and bind them with a worm.
then he'd take my sleeves and tie them against the monkey bars.
he used to say,
' girls are ugly, and all boys will rule the earth one day ' .
-
when id get home with tears in my eyes,
my mom would warm up hot coco for me,
with two little cubes of sugar
and a spoon of peanut butter in it.
she'd tell me about how Jimmy Lee was probably gay
like his father. and how one day, maybe he'd come around.
my mom knew just the right words to say
to piece back the puzzle on my face,
into something one could call art.
-
it was my birthday,
and i tried every way to get out of going to the park
but my mom insisted that we were going.
she laid eyes on a young man
that she was trying to get to know
like she knew my daddy.
-
there sat Jimmy Lee, as if he was waiting for me.
he walked up to me with this look of defeat in his face.
i had my hair tied up in a bun,
with a beautiful short sleeved dress on.
(he wasn't getting to me this time.)
he had something behind his back,
and my heart began to skip a beat.
he pulled out a bag of pistachios
and whispered a ' happy birthday' to me.
leaned in against my lips
and kissed me gently as he whispered,
with a smile on his face, ' eww. '

a gorgeous story
I particularly liked;
my mom knew just the right words to say
to piece back the puzzle on my face,
into something one could call art.
I've always loved the whole little boy vs little girl scenario.
My only complaint is that this was too short, I wanted to keep on reading!

Aw, this is really cute and kind of funny because of the worm in your hair thing. I love the way you really bring the whole picture to life. You're a fantastic poet. Keep them coming and I'll keep commenting.
