Big John, Big Heart

Where we are is no coincidence,
neighbors not blocked by a fence.
Lamplighter is our community,
user friendly with more unity.

We moved in with a vision in mind,
a year later he came too, ever kind.
Sharing a back yard, door facing door,
shared the love of the Father for sure.

Big as a teddy bear, a heart of stock gold,
who would've known he wouldn't grow old.
If we could go with God taking our breath,
to know in a blink of an eye, sudden death.

Our vision shared was a study group in our home,
he portrayed the biker, reving off he would roam.
Boldly he stepped out with his," hey brother",
if what we learn today is to love one another.

Let go of petty things that temporarily annoy,
just know that angels are with us as they deploy.
We could come up to our screen windows to talk,
not perfect as he knew, but still walked the walk.

Came over as Santa for my grandson one year,
reality will soon hit and I'll shed for him a tear.
He came along at the right moments it did seem,
more so for my husband for a message to deem.

I am asking why at the pivital point of this change,
a ministry to reach out to others, it's just strange.
Mighty God knows the plans He has for us all,
please learn through this, take heed to your call.

Security type build but a voice so calm,
someone's heart will need healing balm.
A heart like David is all I will tell you this day,
the message is to get your heart right today.

We all have our battles and crosses to bear,
now the test comes for us all within His care.
I won't be hearing hi hon and hear his cheery voice,
only the echoes of when he spoke about His choice.

Death has no sting for those who sought after glory,
all I know is he was my neighbor and I knew his story.
Did hell just break loose even as God is still well at hand,
continue with what he proclaimed, it's not hard to stand.

Author notes

As we were celebrating my mother-in-law turning 70...my neighbor gets ahold of us to let us know our neighbor that lives only a few feet in back of us was found dead by his girlfriend today. He went out and sought the Lord and just recently went to Kentucky to deliver a truck load of clothes. We both shared a vision years ago to start a bible study/prayer group for our mobile park. When I prayed about my husband needing to hear a word...here would come John to say something, or even to encourage him, find him a job and would hope to hear other news for my husband on job matters. He would sneak up on my cats at the screen window. He involved himself to seek God...a heart like David, not perfect and a lot to learn like any of us, but again a heart like David is all that echos in my heart as I question why. Yes, I am questioning why and I am uneasy. God knows. IN MEMORY OF JOHN DAVIS...only known to be 51 years old.

Are we really prepared...do we really have time?
