Over and Over, (Held by the Muse)

I harvest every footstep
a reaper with a scythe
Sails full a hard wind blowing
on this journey of mine

Paper before me calling
my hand calls for the pen
The urgency keeps growing
captive to the Muse again

Going where the wind blows
whether foul or fair
nib touches down
the words flow out
I really have no choice
over and over

In Shadows of the evening
the rising of the Sun
never knowing when the Muse
will put me to the task

A line repeating over
a snatch of tune behind
Eyes will then be opened
another truth I find

Sorrow of sweet mourning
joy of new love found
To lose the fight
To set things right
Words keep flowing out
over and over

Author notes

prompt#7

Possession-A.S. Blyatt

"There is a place to which all poets come
some having sought it long, some unawares
some having battled monsters, some asleep
who chance upon the path in thickest dream
some lost in mythy mazes, some direct
From fear of death, or lust of life or thought
and some who lost themselves......."

As soon as I read this I knew it would be the inspiration for this work. I wake in the middle of the night with a line or two which will no allow me to sleep, or the same set of lines that will not cease until put to paper to be expanded upon. When the Muse is upon me I have little choice but to write. The first stanza leapt to mind immediately worked out the rest from there.
Thanks for the notice.

great take on the prompt - wakeful hours and sleepless nights, we are all captive to our creations. the final verse covers almost all inspirations to write - sorrow, grief, love, anger, bitterness, repentance or justice...... well done!

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
I was trying to show how writing affects me. This is how it really is, I wake up in the middle of the night and have to write the lines or I will get no sleep. Sometimes it is only two or three lines, sometimes more, (Dreamscape).

A fine look at being possessed by a Muse, the compulsion to write, 'To set things right' that drives a poet.
