Cigarette in hand
a decision has been made
there was no love lost
no alternative to find
the time has come to start again
The familiarity of the christian skinned family
I once belonged to
is nothing to tether me
I need... a change
of scenery
of life
I know of a little town
I've never seen
beside the equator
beside the sea
In this town is a family
in this family is a girl
and in this girl I have freind
We were summer sweethearts
so many years ago
She told me of the town
of the hot dry climate
and little rain
She once spoke of her lover
although I cannot recall his name
and how nothing and everything is exactly the same
I'm thinking Texas
a new life near an old freind
and I pray I will never see
my beloved Ozarks ever again

I like the poetic tale you have painted here. I identify with the lines:
"The familiarity of the christian skinned family
I once belonged to
is nothing to tether me
I need... a change
of scenery
of life"
beautiful enticing imagery of an unknown town, a lost girlfriend, forgotten details and new resolve to start over in Texas.

Excellent write
I like the need for a change, a move, to skeedaddle. I felt the need and urgency in this and I felt I was moving too.
Good luck in the competition.

This is one of those inside my head moments. I have been drawn by the wanderlust a few times and have always ended back here, soon it will be time to travel again. Funny how starting over always involves a move.

Love this!
I really love this as it takes the prompt and puts a complete story around it. There is so much in it, very moving.
