hope

He reaches deep into the bag,
he reaches out... to nothing there.
Sugar sweets would make
this awkward life complete
but air is all his fingers bear.
Even the weight of oxygen
seems too thick to wear.

He might share his breath with another
if it wasn't for crass winter's mutter.
He might fly, perhaps flutter
into the windows open shutter
and cuddle there inside her dove-like hands
to sleep away the rest of life, the rest of man.
But no wing has he to take to flight
beyond these broken arms of night.

Another Halloween will come
He'll pick his costume brightly gay,
pick the streets he'll wander through,
he'll wait again the end of day
and hope the treats he begs to see
will be within his fragile grasp.

Thanks, Sha! I guess when it comes down to it all my writes seem to be about me... the way I see and think of things. I have had much fun on this with the different contests.

Thhanks, for the read, B! I try to choose phrasing, words that tell a universal story but (hopefully) with a unique twist on it.
