Sweet Pearl’s Saloon

Sweet Pearl’s Saloon

This is the story, of a cowboy’s demise,
the fortnights he rode n’ slept ‘neath the moon.
He knew of a girl he thought was a prize,
he knew of her love and needed it soon.
He dreamt of this girl with sweet bedroom eyes
and knew he would find her, in Sweet Pearl’s Saloon.
So he found that place at the end of the road,
where the music played and the liquor flowed.

The doors swung open and ol’ Jeb stepped in,
he walked to a table; close to the bar.
He was greeted by Pearl, with a big grin,
who gave him a whisky, n’ a stogie cigar.
She sat on his lap, said; “How have you been”?
Jeb simply replied with; “Been ridin’ a far”.
“I’m needin’ yer lovin’ Pearl; what do ya think?”
She said with a grin: “But, ya surely do stink”.

“I’ll give ya a bath Jeb, just follow me".
He followed her lead, his head in a cloud.
A cowboy was watching with great jealousy;
the sign on the door said; “No Spurs Allowed”.
She opened the door so her cleavage he’d see.
The whisky took over and poor Jeb was plowed.
The cowboy walked in, saw them both in the tub.
He shot them both dead before they could scrub.

    Well, this is just sad.

The thing a cowboy fears the most is dying with his boots off. I guess that is why you saw pictures of them sitting in #3 wash tubs with their boots still on their feet. I enjoyed the form and the poem. Thank you for the entry.

I do believe that other fella was Rocky Raccoon, right? What a twisted tale. I love the playfulness of the lines. It says much more than first glance avails. Bravo.

What a wonderful Wild West story is told in this ottava rima.
The flow is great and the jargon adds a nice touch to it.

The queen of form strikes back, once again.

    Great job!

A great tale about the Wild Wild West ... all the right ingredients ... booze, sex and jealousy, with the latter causing someone's demise and poor old Jeb never did get any lovin'
and all told in a Ottava Rima as only you can tell it.

All the best in the contest.

    Love
    Sue
