Hesitantly stepping forward
Like a timid doe at her forest’s edge,
We teeter on one foot,
Before stepping into a winter
That will last a thousand years
And surely destroy us.
As our kingdoms fade,
Our bodies will fall like flakes of snow
To blanket the ground
In the cold white sacrifice
But the Earth,
Our gentle Earth will take our bodies
As the most devoted offerings,
And remake them into new forms,
Shaping us with loving hands
From her own red clay
And hiding seeds beneath our snow
To prepare for spring.
Oh and spring will come,
I assure you, I assure you,
New shoots will spring up
And Paradise will bloom
With new flowers
In shapes unlike we’ve seen,
With petals unlike we’ve known,
Colored with unknown colors.
Spring will rejoice;
The doe will birth her fawn.
